Purchase :

Sam and I purchased Moss Cottage back in 1995. The house was not really in a fit state to live in as the property had only been half renovated. The photo below shows the new extension (with red tiles) and the original property (the grey tiles). The current owner was living in a couple of rooms at the end of the property. There was not central heat, running water, bathroom or kitchen. Suffice to say we didn't move in immediatly.

The land on which "Moss Cottage" now stands was originally part of a plot extending as far as where "The Myrtles" is now.

This land came under an 1812 Act of Parliament, an act for the enclosure of waste or heath land. Large pieces of waste or derelict land were allowed to be fenced in.

Owners :-
bulletLand sold at Wed 7th September 1814 Land auction, Lot 1, at the Plough Inn, Great Bentley.
to Farmer John Golding of St. Osyth, for £20. He bought it for his son Samuel Golding.
 
bullet1930s Moss Cottage was divided into two cottages.
These were owned by the King family and the Tricker Family.
